A few answers
to help you prepare.
Explore care information, then bring the questions specific to your situation to your specialist.

Is medication always the first step?
Sinusitis can be managed with medications such as antibiotics or nasal steroid sprays. A procedure may be considered when medical therapy does not adequately improve symptoms.
Does a blocked nose always need surgery?
Medication may help some causes of obstruction. A surgical option may be discussed if symptoms do not improve and the examination identifies a problem that could benefit from a procedure.
What is a deviated septum?
It is a misalignment of the cartilage and bone that divide the nose into two passages. It can restrict airflow on one or both sides.
Why do turbinates become enlarged?
Allergies and other nasal problems can cause the tissue covering the turbinates to swell and restrict airflow.
What does sinus CT imaging help determine?
CT imaging can help confirm chronic sinusitis and guide treatment planning, including whether a procedure may be useful.
